Terms & Conditions
These terms apply to all tuition provided by Joe White, trading as Whiteboard Chemistry (I, me, my). By booking a lesson, you (the parent, guardian or adult student) agree to these terms.
1. Services
I provide one-to-one online chemistry tuition for GCSE and A Level students, delivered via video call. Lessons are tailored to each student's exam board (AQA, OCR) and individual needs.
2. Booking & confirmation
A lesson is confirmed once I have responded in writing — by email or message — to confirm availability and both parties have agreed to proceed. The scheduling link on my website is for booking requests only; it does not guarantee a slot until I confirm it.
3. Fees
Current hourly rates are:
- GCSE Science & Chemistry: from £60 per hour
- A Level Chemistry: from £70 per hour
Fees are confirmed before lessons begin. I reserve the right to review my rates periodically and will notify existing clients of any changes.
4. Payment
Payment is due in advance of each lesson by bank transfer. If payment is not received prior to the lesson, I reserve the right to pause lessons until the account is settled.
5. Cancellations & rescheduling
By you (student / parent):
- More than 24 hours' notice: the lesson will be rescheduled at no charge.
- Less than 24 hours' notice: the full lesson fee is charged, as the slot cannot reasonably be filled.
- No-shows without notice: the full lesson fee is charged.
By me:
- I will give as much notice as possible if I need to cancel or reschedule.
- If I cancel a confirmed lesson, it will be rescheduled at a time convenient to you at no extra charge.
- I do not charge for lessons I cancel.
6. Free consultation
I offer a free initial consultation (up to 30 minutes) to discuss a student's needs and goals before any lessons are booked. This is not a trial lesson and does not include syllabus teaching.
7. Lessons & conduct
To get the most from each lesson, students are expected to:
- Join the video call on time and in a quiet environment suitable for study.
- Come prepared, with relevant notes, textbooks or past paper questions where applicable.
- Engage actively and ask questions.
I reserve the right to end a lesson early or decline to continue future lessons if a student is persistently disruptive, abusive or unprepared to an extent that makes effective teaching impossible. In such cases, a pro-rata charge applies for time already spent.
8. Resources & materials
Any resources I share during or after lessons (notes, question sets, revision materials) are for the student's personal use only. They may not be shared, published or used commercially without my permission.
Links to external resources (past papers, revision sites) are shared in good faith. I am not responsible for the content or availability of third-party websites.
9. Results & no guarantee
I am committed to helping every student achieve their potential. However, I cannot guarantee specific exam grades — results depend on a student's effort, attendance and individual circumstances as well as the quality of tuition.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, my liability to you in connection with tuition is limited to the total fees paid for the lessons in question. I am not liable for indirect losses, including (without limitation) lost exam opportunities or costs arising from technical difficulties beyond my control.
I hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate (ID: C6223941616). I take safeguarding seriously and operate in accordance with best practice for online tutoring of minors.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. I will notify existing clients of any material changes by email with at least two weeks' notice. Continued booking of lessons after notice of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
